The Project

Trilingual Free School Project

We would like to set up a family-based school offering integrated, high quality education. This school would be based on the Montessori and Non Violent Communication Methods. We would provide the option of incorporating the National Curriculum into the education programme.

We are looking for families that would like to take part in the school, and also for anyone interested in contributing (teachers, volunteer administrators or pedagogues, donators, a space to use, etc.) We welcome all contributions that follow a similar direction or complement the Montessori Method.

What is the Montessori Method?

This method was implemented by Maria Montessori, an Italian scientist, pedagogue, and humanist, who put the child at the centre of the learning process. Today, thousands of schools in the world are officially using this method, aiming at letting the children grow free and happy.

Observing them her whole life, she designed materials that could be used in the class to enable them to learn at their own individual rhythm, according to their own needs and personality, and that way, to develop self-knowledge, self-discipline, autonomy, self-esteem… freedom and happiness.

In the class, each child is responsible for his evolution. The teaching is non-directive, the adult acts as a guide more than as a teacher. So each child goes and gets the material he wants and works on it in the time needed, then places it back to where it was, ready to use by others.

The role of the teacher is to prepare the environment of the class, for it to be attractive to the pupils. Rich and simple. He presents the materials to the children, observes and notes their individual evolution, guides the child when needed, and makes sure that the atmosphere is welcoming, safe and appropriate for concentration.

The Montessori material is a wonderful invention, as the child can then learn through self-motivation and learns to take initiative. He can use any specific material as many times as he chooses, and may even come back to it long after to strengthen his learning; he is free to make mistakes, and correct himself, to learn faster or slower : the material is self-corrective, progressive, offers one difficulty at a time, the child can learn surely and safely.

In addition, the material integrates a high quality educational content, that takes root at the level of experience. Every abstract notion is prepared long before through concrete experience. Real life experience is highly valued and the material goes little by little from sensorial to more abstract, rooting every part of the learning more deeply.

The Method is looking at exploring the realm of the intellectual, as well as the sensorial, and the spiritual.

What is the NonViolent Communication Method?

Marshall B. Rosenberg, Ph.D., is the founder and the educational director of the Center for NonViolent Communication. His programmes and trainings have now reached to people in more than 30 countries and are now offered in hundreds of schools world-wide.

This type of communication is based on mutually respectful relationships, and assumes that enriching life is the most satisfying motivation for doing things, rather than being motivated by fear, guilt, blame, or shame. It’s all about connecting with each other in new and powerful ways to create extraordinary schools that meet everyone needs.
